Beelzebub’s Tales

Chapter 44 – In Beelzebub’s Opinion, Man’s Understanding of Justice is in the Objective Sense an Accursed Mirage

…”I wish to speak about …the chief ‘stumbling block’ in (your favorites’) psyche, namely, that idea which has become the basis of all their religions, the idea of ‘Good’ and ‘Evil.’

“… it became evident…, that the fundamental cause of all the abnormalities in the psyche of the three-brained beings arising on this planet was a very definite concept, …that there exist, …outside the essence of beings, two diametrically opposite factors—the principle of Good and the principle of Evil— which are the instigators of all their good and bad manifestations.

“…this universally disseminated and maleficent idea,…on the one hand, …becomes a means of calming themselves, and justifying all their manifestations and, on the other, it is the fundamental factor impeding the possibility arising in certain of them for the perfecting of their highest being-part.

…the three-brained being who gave the first impulse toward the crystallizing of that maleficent idea was a certain Makary Kronbernkzion…

“…he decided, in order to share the truths he had discovered with other beings around him similar to himself, to engrave on marble a ‘boolmarshano’ entitled ‘The Affirming and Denying Influences on Man.’

…the text in which Makary Kronbernkzion employed for the first time the idea of Good and Evil, … symbolized the forces which are the basis for the formation of the presence, as well as of the formation of the stream of successive states, of every relatively independent cosmic arising, and thus of course of every being.

“…the ideas …could be expressed as follows: ‘It is evident that we men, like all units existing in the Universe, are formed and always consist of the same three independent forces, by means of which the process of reciprocal maintenance of everything existing is actualized, that is, the following three universal forces. ‘The first of these forces continually arises from causes appearing within the Prime Source itself from the effect of the pressure of new arisings and, issuing from it by momentum, flows out of that Prime Source.

” ‘The second universal force is what this first force becomes when, after having spent the momentum it had, it strives to reblend with the source of its arising, according to the fundamental cosmic law “the effects of a cause must always re-enter the cause.

” ‘In the general process of reciprocal maintenance, these two forces are entirely independent, and in their manifestations always, and in everything, keep their own properties and characteristics.

” ‘The first of these two fundamental forces, the one that is always compelled to manifest outside the source of its arising, must constantly involve, and the second, on the contrary, in striving to reblend with the cause of its arising, must always and in everything evolve.

” ‘Since the first of these three independent forces arises from vivifying actions proceeding in the very foundation of the Cause of everything that exists, and thus receives in its presence the germ of that same power of manifesting vivifyingness, it may be considered as “Good,” that is, as a factor for the actualizing of the backward-flowing effects, which in relation to this first force can and must be considered as “Evil.” ‘Moreover, the first force, as it is manifested from inevitable and compelling causes arising in the Prime Source itself, can from this point of view be considered as passive. ‘The second, backward-flowing force, because it must constantly resist, in order to have the possibility of re-entering its cause, or at least of withstanding the contrary flow of the first, passive force, which has received its momentum from the Prime Source, must be regarded as active.

” ‘And as for the third universal force, this is nothing but the result of the clash, everywhere and in everything, of these two fundamental, descending and ascending independent forces.

” ‘Although this third independent force is only the result of the first two fundamental forces, it is nevertheless the spiritualizing and reconciling principle of every cosmic formation. ‘And it is the spiritualizing and reconciling principle of every cosmic world-formation because it arises, and must exist in them as a presence, as long as there exist the results of diverse unusual mutual resistances occurring between the two fundamental forces flowing in entirely opposite direction.’

“And so, my boy, it was in this sense and in this meaning that the terms ‘Good’ and ‘Evil’ were used for the first time by that unfortunate Makary Kronbernkzion.

“However it may have been, my boy, the detailed and impartial research I made on the spot brought to light the following:

“When that idea had gradually taken on this maleficent form, it became for the psyche of your favorites what is called a ‘determining factor’ for the crystallization of data in their common presence for the fantastic notion that there exist, as it were, outside of them objective sources of ‘Good’ and ‘Evil’ which act upon their essence. From then on, other peculiar data began to be crystallized in their general psyche… which engender the conviction, …that the causes of all their manifestations, both good and bad, are not to be found in themselves, in their own criminal essence-egoism, but in some external influence not depending on them at all.

“The fundamental harm ensuing from this fantastic idea for all these unfortunates is that, … data cease to be crystallized in them for engendering what is called a ‘being-world-view with diverse aspects’, and instead of this a ‘world-view’ is formed in them based exclusively on that maleficent idea of external Good and Evil.

In Search of the Miraculous

end of Ch. 7, after Ray of Creation

“Organic life represents so to speak the earth’s organ of perception. Organic life forms something like a sensitive film which covers the whole of the earth’s globe and takes in those influences coming from the planetary sphere which otherwise would not be able to reach the earth. The vegetable, animal, and human kingdoms are equally important for the earth in this respect. …

“All great events in the life of the human masses are caused by planetary influences. They are the result of the taking in of planetary influences. Human society is a highly sensitive mass for the reception of planetary influences. And any accidental small tension in planetary spheres can be reflected for years in an increased animation in one or another sphere of human activity. Something accidental and very transient takes place in planetary space. This is immediately received by the human masses, and people begin to hate and to kill one another, justifying their actions by some theory of brotherhood, or equality, or love, or justice.

“Organic life is the organ of perception of the earth and it is at the same time an organ of radiation. With the help of organic life each portion of the earth’s surface occupying a given area sends every moment certain kinds of rays in the direction of the sun, the planets, and the moon….Everything that happens on earth creates radiations of this kind. And many things often happen just because certain kinds of radiation are required from a certain place on the earth’s surface.”

Inner Octaves, Maurice Conge

“What Is the Work?”

…it seems that the life of the Work can only be considered from the widest possible perspective, in a complete break from our egocentric vision.

What is the Work? It is not one form or another in which we participate. We must conceive of it as a whole, as a universe within which these forms are but one expression among an infinity of expressions. Even though these forms are essential, they are nevertheless secondary; we need to be able to open ourselves to the Whole. …

For years, we think we know, only to discover one day that we know nothing about it! But why stop there?

One thing seems clear to me: if I don’t understand the Work, it’s because I always look with a limited perspective, always in relation to myself, in relation to this ‘me’ that wants to bring everything down to its own level. As long as I look selfishly, with the eyes of the acquisitive ‘me’, I will never understand anything about the life of the Work, and I will never find my place in it. But if I manage to give up my personal version, the life of the Work will reveal itself in me exactly to the extent that I have let it permeate me. At the same time, I will know that my place depends, on my degree of consciousness.

I do not understand what the Work is, and I do not comprehend its life, because the Work begins much higher up and must reach fulfilment at a much higher level than we think. …

What we call the Work, of which we see so little, is a cosmic undertaking that involves man but which precedes him. We always forget: ‘The Work is not made for me; I am made for the Work.’ If I could become sure of that, it would free me from needless worry and bring me back to a realization that may be unpleasant for my pride, but is nonetheless right and fitting.

Being in contact with a traditional teaching does not therefore automatically mean being in the Work; we are immersed in the life of the Work, but we are not in the life of the Work if we are not conscious. …

…So I can only hope to find my place in it if I think and feel differently, if I comply with it, if I discover its needs, if I learn to serve…….

To be part of this life of the Work, then, would mean to understand, to obey, to serve.
